"Huge shout-out to Dan Johnson for hosting our group in Acme, Washington just south of the Canadian border. Our group consisting of Myself, Atlas( my dog),Steve Rahm and his dog Izzy, and our friend Nick Brueggeman all were sending packages and parts over the last month getting ready for our big trek up to Alaska. There was literally 15 packages. Dan so graciously hosted us and went above and beyond to help get us ready. The day before arriving in Washington, my fork seal blew. Unlucky luck. I found parts along the way and that was added to the list of things to do. I personally did both front forks, oil/filter change, chain and sprockets and Dan helped me do both front and rear tires!! Dan not only helped me, but he busted tires out for Nick too! We are departing today to head across the border!!! My first ever border crossing on a bike! So excited. Don't hesitate to hit Dan up for a great stay. He's filled with fun motorcycle stories and backpacking stories from around the world. Very cool guy and he's got a sick KTM too. Good taste huh?? 😜. Onto Canada and then Alaska!!!!

"Did you know that Bunk-a-biker hosts can be a wealth of information? Not only do they open their homes to travelers, they are oftentimes quite happy to give advice and suggestions.

I am holidaying over in Australia at the moment and decided to rent a motorbike for a day. Not knowing the area, I reached out to several pins in Brisbane and received a wealth of information. Didn't need accomodation but what I did get was priceless.

I had one of the best days of riding, ever, because the BaB hosts recommended routes for me. I mean, who wouldn't want to see the cutest little wallabies (smaller version of kangaroos) hopping around? One host even offered to ride with me but our schedules ended up not being able to sync.

So even if you don't need a Bunk, reach out for that connection wherever you may find yourself wandering. You might just get tips for a most excellent day of riding. . ."

"I had a crazy experience a couple weeks ago as an American bunkee staying with a couple in Nova Scotia. I was traveling two hours across the province to stay with Alex and his wife, Sydney when I crashed on day 3 and 1200 miles of what was supposed to be a 6 day and 2000+ mile trip. Not only did Alex come pick me up with a trailer no questions asked, but he let me extend my stay for a day and helped me get on the ferry back home to the States. While he wasn't a US host, it goes to show the generosity and commitment of the people who offer their homes and resources to us, and provide that extra security on the road. If you're ever planning a trip from Maine to Nova Scotia, say hi to Alex for me. (I'm okay!)"

"We were in a SERIOUS bind yesterday hundreds of miles from home and this guy came to our rescue... Jarrod Stewart located in Keyes, Oklahoma. Both of us were riding the TAT about 40mins away and noticed my bike had taken a rock to the radiator and was leaking. We immediately began cussing and discussing potential options of what to do and reached out to Jarrod. Without hesitation he offered his garage, truck/trailer, assistance with repairs, food/water/beer, and also a place to stay for the evening while we made repairs.

If you are ever in the panhandle of Oklahoma and are looking to meet and stay with one of the kindest most giving individuals on the planet look up and give Jarrod Stewart a call. Thanks again Jarrod we owe you BIG time!"

"This story is not directly Bunk-a-Biker related, but it is the reason I became a host, and why I have built so many relationships with other hosts when we travel. He opened my eyes to the way motorcycling can truly be family.

People often ask me why I’m so passionate about motorcycles, and why I see my fellow riders as my brothers and sisters.
I think that it can be summed up in the story of one of the many riding friends I’ve met. His name is Tim Bliss. Tim is no ordinary friend. While it may seem unlikely that he and I would have a close friendship, he is truly my brother-in-bike, so to speak. Meeting, and getting to know Tim, happened at a time in my life when I really needed it. I met him the day after my only brother died, in 2017.
Rufus (my brother) was a pilot. He was an army pilot, and flew Blackhawks. He also owned a Beechcraft that he flew almost every day. He had crashed in his Beechcraft and didn’t make it.
I was on my way to Arkansas to be with family. Tim was headed home to New York, finishing his 48 state tour. We both stopped at the same gas station in Texas. After a short exchange at the gas station, Tim asked where I was headed. When I told him, he got a somber look on his face, and reached into the pocket of his leather vest, and handed me a star from a retired flag that had flown over the capital. He thanked me for my brother’s service, and gave me a giant hug. My wife, Mikki, and my sister were returning from the restroom, and found us hugging and crying in the middle of the gas station. Then Cris (Tim’s girlfriend) joined us. The ladies had to get in on the crying and hugging. We exchanged information, and we were on our way.
A week and a half later, when my brother was being laid to rest in the veterans memorial cemetery, I arrived to find Tim and his Harley. He had driven back to Arkansas, from up state New York, after finishing the lower 48, just to be there for me and my family. Tim also rides with the Patriot Riders, so we asked him to escort my brother’s ashes in the internment ceremony.
Two years later, Mikki and I took a trip on my Harley to visit Tim and Cris in New York. He showed us the beauty of the Adirondacks as we rode together.
This year, we sent out invitations to my parent’s 50th wedding anniversary party last month.
Tim and Cris changed the route of their 48 state tour, to be there.
This is Tim’s 11th consecutive year to make the 48 state ride. (It’s still on my bucket list)
Making friends, and being a friend is one of the biggest parts of riding to me.
You all are my friends, my family. When we wave at each other, just know, it’s special to me.
